Sketching and Watercolor

What you see and experience can be captured and remembered through the pencil, pen, and color. There are stories to be told and to be preserved. I enjoy finding a small story or event to be reconstructed on paper for each place I travel and in different events of life.

District of Columbia

A windy and cold day before the New Year wandering the streets in DC looking for buildings to sketch! Found the historic National Savings & Trust Building circa 1888!

Rockville, MD

In search of two kindred railroad stations designed by E. Francis Baldwin in 1873…first in Rockville and next in Point of Rocks.

Brunswick, MD

Historic, restored church in Brunswick, MD along the Potomac that has been converted into a coffee shop (Beans in the Belfry!). Enjoyed sketching and knitting a few times in the past, most recent with our friends Dennis and Tami!

Georgetown, DC

Every year we take the kids and we Metro down to see the Christmas lights around Georgetown…eat dinner at Thunder Burger, and then wander up Wisconsin to Thomas’ for ice cream and coffee!

Emmitsburg, MD

Passing down from Harrisburg, PA to Frederick, MD, spent a little time in Emmitsburg!

Winchester, VA

Historic Winchester…the old downtown pedestrian walk is full of history, culture, and people.

Montreal, Canada

Founded as Ville-Marie, or “City of Mary”, a pristine modern city paired with the ambiance of Old Montreal composed of colonial era buildings dating into the late 17th century! Holly and I were able to visit for a few days and enjoy the amazing architecture, art, and culture delivered eloquently in both English and French. Our Knit-Sketch stretched for days, capturing stories of the place, local knitting stores, award winning restaurants, and of course meeting new faces and catching up with dear friends. Two amazing restaurants to note: Auberge St. Germain and Monarque - top notch and absolute memory creators! The cap to a great visit, dining and catching up with two dear friends, Shari and Spyro!

Alexandria, VA

King Street is full of historic shops and restaurants, loaded with vitality.

Cheraw, SC

Spending a few days hunting and fishing with Palmetto in Cheraw and enjoyed visiting the historic 1770 St. David’s Episcopal Church and cemetery…the church served as a hospital through the Revolutionary War and Civil War and was reclad to match the original lapboard design in 1980.

Passing through Richmond…

When you are passing through Richmond on I95, you are always amazed by this Beaux Arts 1901 intermodal station (architect - Wilson, Harris & Richards)…take the time to pull off, drive below the interstate, and rest at the base of the station and enjoy the collision of transportation (new and old)!
